The Dixon Fire, formerly the Tiller Trail Fire, was first reported on Saturday, August 10th at approximately 2:40pm. Local resources responded quickly and located a wind-driven, rapidly growing fire burning on lands within Douglas Forest Protective Association, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Tiller Rural Fire Protection District. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Due to the fast-moving nature of the fire and the threat to structures, resources were quickly ordered, including a structural task force from Rogue Valley for Immediate Response. Saturday evening, the Emergency Conflagration Act was invoked for the fire. This mobilized structural task forces and an Oregon State Fire Marshal incident management team.
As of Sunday morning, the fire was estimated to be about 1,600 acres and is actively burning outside the town of Tiller. Crews continue to work diligently to contain the fire and expand upon the hard work of initial attack resources. This includes extending, strengthening and tying in sections of fire line and expanding structural preparations. After the smoke inversion cleared, aerial assets were used to support firefighting operations on the ground. Structure protection is now being provided by OSFM task forces from Rogue Valley, Lincoln, Linn and Benton counties. Resources will remain engaged throughout the night, building fire line and protecting structures.
The Oregon State Fire Marshal Green Incident Management Team and Oregon Department of Forestry Incident Management Team 2 are in unified command of the fire.
