As of Monday morning, the Flat Fire is estimated at 21,971 acres and is 5% contained. The fire is burning about two miles northeast of Sisters.
Firefighters made progress overnight as cooler temperatures helped slow fire activity. Crews reinforced containment lines, patrolled for hot spots, and extinguished spot fires along the eastern, southeastern, and western edges of the fire. In the south and southwest, crews contained a 10-acre slop over from Sunday evening.
Today, firefighters are working to secure those gains by holding and strengthening fire lines, extinguishing hot spots, and attacking any new flare-ups. Structure protection crews remain in place across threatened neighborhoods.

Despite light rain this morning, fuels remain dry. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9 p.m. on Monday, along with a heat advisory through Wednesday. Forecasters also warn of possible thunderstorms that could bring strong, gusty winds.
The fire has destroyed four homes and six outbuildings in Deschutes County. One home and one additional structure have been damaged. Hundreds of homes remain standing because of property owners’ defensible space efforts and firefighters’ aggressive response. Officials are continuing damage assessments and will notify property owners as structures are identified.
Evacuations and Closures
Levels 1, 2, and 3 evacuations remain in place under the direction of the Deschutes and Jefferson County sheriff’s offices. The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service ask the public to stay out of the fire area for firefighter safety. Temporary flight restrictions remain in place. Flying drones near the fire is illegal and endangers firefighting aircraft.
