Oregon task forces mobilized through the Oregon State Fire Marshal are working around the clock on several fires burning as part of the Tyee Ridge Complex in Douglas County. The task forces are actively involved on the Cougar Creek #1 Fire, the largest in the complex. This fire has burned roughly 2,400 acres. The fire is the combination of three fires, Cougar Creek #1, Cougar Creek, and Rattlesnake fires that burned together.
Structural firefighters are working to prepare homes and create defensible space along Hubbard Creek Road. In the afternoon, the smoke that settles into the valleys overnight lifts and fire activity increases. The OSFM Red Incident Management Team is also assigned to the fire. The team reports firefighters are in good spirits and doing outstanding work in protecting homes.
The OSFM structural task forces are also working on the Lighthouse and Tyee fires. Firefighters are scouting the areas and planning as a precaution in case fire activity increases.
On Saturday, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act for the Tyee Ridge Complex. The OSFM immediately mobilized the Red Incident Management Team (IMT) and five structural task forces. Two additional task forces were also mobilized. The task forces are from Central Oregon, and Clatsop, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Washington, and Yamhill counties. The Red IMT is in unified command with the Oregon Department of Forestry Team 1.
