The Oregon task forces mobilized to California have continued their great work on the McKinney Fire. Today, August 4, the Linn and Marion County teams headed back out for another 24-hour shift.
Wednesday, the task force from Clackamas County worked on mop-up and patrol along with other tasks while on their shift.
On Tuesday, the Linn and Clackamas County task forces were assigned to assist with mop-up on the Meamber Fire burning southwest of the McKinney Fire.
The crews worked hard in very steep terrain with threats of thunderstorms and flash flooding, but fortunately, the area they were working was spared from the floods.
The task forces are dealing with hot temperatures and thunderstorms. Heavy rain on Tuesday caused flash flooding on parts of the McKinney Fire.
According to McKinney Fire information, “Those storms kept the fire from gaining significant growth. This allowed firefighters to move to an offensive approach where they can now focus on opportunities to go both direct and indirect on the fire. With the rainfall also comes hazardous debris, such as mud, downed trees, and rockfall; ultimately causing fire personnel to work more cautiously in these areas of the fire.”
